Our history…

Burke Lake Women’s Golf Club (BLWGC) was started June 21,1982, with 21 members. Dues were $5. That money was used ($17.52) for both birdie pins expected to last possibly through the 1984 season and for prizes at the end of the year luncheon and the various tournaments. Burke Lake Golf Course donated 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for the end of the year tournament. The plan was to advertise to increase the membership for 1983.

In 1983, there were 28 members, 15 of whom were very active. Starting day was the first Monday in April. To assist the Board, consideration was given to having someone in charge of sign ups, and to having a tournament director. $7.07 was left in the treasury at the end of the year; dues we’re raised to $10.

In 1985, an April picnic was added to share and conduct business with the group.

By March 1986, the first annual coffee was held at the clubhouse. Coffee was provided compliments of the county, and the treasurer released funds to pay for the donuts. Dues that year were $12 and the “chip in” fee was raised from $.10 to $.25.

The written history for BLWGC in 1987 indicated that rules and pace of play were becoming a big topic. A luncheon was established the first Monday in November.

By 1990, it was noted that more volunteers were needed to help the Board, or some club activities would need to be eliminated. A nominating committee and rules committee were formed that same year.

In 1993, there was an astounding membership of 99 ladies! By-Laws and standing rules first appeared in the history.

In 2011, the female golf statuette was donated by a Mr. Friel to BLWGC for the club champion. It was decided that the recipient would keep it for two weeks then return it to the clubhouse to be displayed.

BLWGC has continued and built upon the foundation started in 1982.
